DAVINES FOR CLIMATE ACTION
CARBON NEUTRAL SINCE 2018
We are creatures of the cosmos, we are connected in the same breath. What you take, you give back. Together, one step at a time, we can breathe new life into the Planet.
Climate Action
Planet Earth is like a spaceship. As Adlai Stevenson once said:
“We, its inhabitants, we travel together, passengers on this little spaceship, dependent on its vulnerable reserves of natural resources; preserved from annihilation only by the care, the work, and, I will say, the love we give to this fragile craft.
- Adlai Stevenson
CO2 - together with the other greenhouse gases - contributes to global warming, and therefore to climate change.
Human activities are accounted to have caused temperatures to rise by about 1.0 ° C above pre-industrial levels.
Many effects are evident, such as: permanent ice loss, heat waves and desertification of vast areas of our Planet.
These phenomena are now evident on all ecosystems: they affect every form of life on Earth, including humans.
!
If humans will continue to do business as usual and will not change their lifestyle and purchase behavior, global warming will arrive to 2 ° C over pre-industrial levels: a mortal danger for every form of life on Earth.
Our journey towards decarbonization
Since 2006, Davines has undertaken a path of reduction and compensation of CO2eq emissions. We're happy to share our milestones with you.
THE AWAKENING
2006
First: Renewable Electricity
The production site in Parma started using electricity from renewable sources.
We started monitoring and offsetting the emissions deriving from the packaging life cycle of our most iconic products, the Essential Haircare line.
THE STUDYING YEARS
2016
Packaging Offsetting Route
2013 - More Inside
2015 - YHA
2016- OI and Mask
We monitored all the emissions from Parma's offices and production.
THE BOOST
2018
Carbon Neutral Company
We became a carbon neutral company: we monitor, reduce and offset all emissions under our direct control.
100% carbon neutral packaging - Mission accomplished! We offset all the emissions from packaging life cycle.
THE BOOST
2019
Product Life Cycle Compensation
We launched A Single Shampoo, the symbol of our never-ending journey towards a more sustainable future.
This is the first product for which we offset the emissions related to the entire life cycle, only excluding the use phase at home or in salon.
Where we stand, today
In 2019, we offset 100% of the CO2eq emissions from:
Offices worldwide
Production plant
Product packaging
Offices worldwide
And we also started compensating part of the emissions deriving from:
Corporate events
Product life cycle
Business flights
Given all the emissions that we monitored, in 2019 we offset:
9.326
tons of CO2e
C02 challenge: mission accomplished
In April 2021, we launched a challenge to the Davines community: help us save 80 tons of CO2. How?
By downloading A World — the app selected by the UN to promote a sustainable lifestyle — and tracking one's sustainable actions. These include simple daily gestures, such as turning off the water while brushing your teeth or taking a shorter shower. Each action corresponds to a value of CO2 saved or another positive index.
“The challenge ended with a result beyond expectations: 119 tons of CO2 saved. Thanks to all our salons, collaborators, friends and customers!
Road to Net Zero
Since 2018 Davines is a Carbon Neutral Company. But we pledged to go beyond: in 2019, we committed to become Net Zero emissions by 2030, joining the efforts with other 800 B Corps in the world.
“To be Net Zero, Davines will also have to tackle the emissions indirectly related to its products. In there your support is crucial, because the use phase - in salon and at home- is the biggest source of indirect emissions for haircare and beardcare.
Carbon Neutral vs Net Zero
Understanding the difference between Carbon Neutrlity and Net Zero is not easy, but indeed it's very important. Tap below to learn more!
The revolution starts from your shower and salon
Whether you are a hairdresser or client, join us in the path for a brighter future! Help us reduce the CO2eq emissions deriving from the use phase of your haircare products.
1
Choose a green energy supplier
One of the main ways to fight climate change is to choose renewable energy sources, from which very little or no CO2eq is emitted. Nowadays, most suppliers offer sustainable options: check your contract and make sure it includes only solar, wind, biomass or hydro energy.
2
Reduce the amount of energy you use
When taking care of hair - at home or in the salon - please be conscious of the quantity of energy in use! Most of the CO2eq emissions related to haircare products come from heating water and also from hot styling tools.
5 tips to create more sustainable haircare habits
Once a Davines product enters your bathroom or your salon, you can continue the journey of reducing emissions by changing your habits in the use phase to make them more sustainable.
- Opt for a cooler water temperature: warm, but not boiling hot.
- Shut off the water while you massage in the shampoo, or allow a hair treatment to soak in.
- Turn the running water on only to rinse, then shut it off as soon as you can.
- Use the hairdryer at the lowest possible temperature. Or another option: let your hair air dry.
- Remember to unplug the hairdryer, the straightener or curling iron immediately after use. A plugged in tool uses power even when it is turned off.
